This website is designed by students for students. We have pulled together a vast array of information and resources and put them in one convenient place.

If you look through our site you will find local and national news headlines, the weather forecast, on- and off-campus events calendars, dining and entertainment guides, student discounts, a textbook exchange, volunteer opportunities, academic and administrative department listings, student organization listings, quicklinks to frequently accessed resources... and that's just the beginning. You can search the campus directory, the library catalog, the Yellowpages, and Google directly from our site. Anything and everything that we found useful and thought would be useful to other students is here.

Since the 2004-2005 academic year, the site has been preloaded as the default homepage on ThinkPad computers issued to students. On average, our server processes more than 200,000 page requests per week.

The Student is a member of the Associated Collegiate Press and the Wake Forest University Media Board. The Student is overseen by an advisory board of student leaders and university administrators.

It's not the technology that makes it possible... it's your ideas.

The Student offers a full service web site to every Wake Forest student, the parents of those students, and the residents of Winston-Salem.  With over 50,000 unique visitors and 1,500,000 page views per month, The Student is already a hub for all things Winston-Salem and Wake Forest.  In order to reach this broad audience, The Student offers businesses and student organizations the opportunity to advertise on the site.

We are a relatively new publication but we have a long history.

At the 2002 President's Leadership Conference, the university charged student leaders with "Reviving Student Life," and the idea of this website was first conceived. After a lengthy development process, the website was launched in March 2003. The Student was chartered as an official student organization in April 2003. In March 2005, after 2 years as a provisional member, The Student officially joined the Wake Forest University Media Board.

The name of the website, The Student Online Magazine, harks back to the early years of Wake Forest University, then Wake Forest College, and the oldest student organization and first student publication, a literary magazine, called The Student. First published in 1882, The Student (literary magazine) still exists today but is now known by a different name, Three to Four Ounces.

The Student Online Magazine aggregates content from many different sources, both locally and nationally.
