There are few events at Wake Forest that reach out to the entire campus and invite alumni to return to their alma mater to see old friends and reminisce about their years as a Demon Deacon. Homecoming is one of these unique events. Student Union is hosting events to bring the campus together for a week of fun to show off our school spirit.

A Banner Painting event on Monday at 5 p.m. on the Mag Quad kicks off the week. Every student organization, or any group of people, is invited to bring a team to paint a banner that shows off their group and their Wake Forest Pride. A DJ will be providing music, as well. This event is meant to bring all groups together to create unique banners that will be hung all over the campus during the week of Homecoming.

Tuesday is geared towards showcasing individual talent on campus in the annual SLAM! Poetry and Talent Showcase on the Mag Quad. The Block Party starts at 7 p.m. and includes a DJ and food. The showcase begins at 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday night catch the cinematic classic Top Gun on the Mag Quad on a giant movie screen. This event provides the perfect opportunity to take a break from studying, hang out with friends and enjoy a great film.

Things really heat up on Thursday with Student Union’s 1st Annual PowderPuff Tournament! Teams from different halls and organizations on campus compete in an all girls flag football tournament on the Mag Quad. The games start at 4 p.m. and the winning team earns tickets to Saturday’s Homecoming tailgate, Homecoming shirts and a trophy! Later that night, NPR’s popular radio game show “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” will broadcast from our own Wait Chapel starting at 7:30 p.m. This event is open to the public and will feature a former “Daily Show” correspondent as well as other celebrity guests!

As alumni flood the campus on Friday, get pumped for the annual Bonfire on Davis Field at 7:30 p.m. Look for the marching band, the football team, and Coach Jim Grobe to be there! Show your support by coming out and cheering them on as they prepare to take on Army on Saturday.

On the big day, get ready to cheer on our Demon Deacons at Student Union’s tailgate. For just $5 cash grub on hamburgers, hot dogs and tons of sides in the parking lot of Piccolo Park starting at 1:30 p.m. The Tailgate is an awesome time to find friends and see alumni who have made the trip back for the game.

Don’t forget the main event begins at 3:30 p.m. Be sure to arrive early, as Groves Stadium is expected to be packed. Enjoy seeing Wake fans from all over “Paint it Black” and cheer on the Deacons as they take on Army! After the game, enjoy some food and music at the Post-Game Party at Piccolo Park.

These events are fun ways to bring students and alumni together as Demon Deacons show their Wake Forest Pride. Let’s make it a success and rally behind the Deacs during Homecoming Week!
